![]() photo: david lindley in a village high up in the andes we were searching for a shop that sold knickers for ladies; one of our group had not received her bag in caracas – sent to paris apparently – and three days down the line we were all keen to find her somewhere to buy some new gear. being the token spanish speaker i volunteered to go with her; this chap was the person we asked first but his response was so mumbled and incomprehensible I began to doubt my ability to speak the language. we left him to his place in sun and wandered off in search of shops, eventually finding a place that looked about right. i explained what we wanted, the assistant asked what size and i just couldn’t resist: “¡muy, muy grande!”. we laughed, much to the mortification of the lady i was supposed to be helping. unfortunately though, latin american ladies of a certain age being what they are, all of the product on offer turned out to be pretty well muy, muy grande and also nylon of a certain static electricity generating quality! | |
