![]() photo: david lindley venezuela has many small sugar processors, usually family operations out on the edge of the fileds where the sugar is grown. in incredibly dank, hot, humid and frankly dangerous conditions on primitive aged machinery, they process the raw cane into a type of sugar block the size of a house-brick which is sold to make a type of (non-alcoholic) drink sold widely. for all their hard work each block is sold for pennies. the place was also swarming with bees, attracted no doubt by the endless bounty of syrupy pools splashed around the area. | |
