if the events of the past few days have proved anything, it's that the english are great queuers to gain access to the estate, we've been shunted from school to village hall to police checkpoint: at each place queuing to register to be escorted in, then re-registering, then re-re-registering. after a day and a half of all this fun and games, with no information available (stock police answer: no idea mate, i'm not from this area/you know as much as i do!) and with everyone in unbelievably good spirits, the police seemed to decide: oh, sod it, just let 'em all in!!

so now we're finally in - to streets littered with glass and rooftiles and the sound of boards being nailed over empty window frames - and the task of getting back to normal begins; with no electricity, telephones, gas or water it may be a long process.
