blue boats

photo: sue lindley

our last day in essaouira, in morocco itself, began with a repeat visit to the harbour to make the most of the beautiful light. wrapped in the protective arms of the harbour hundreds of identical small blue boats were lashed together: i can only imagine they were lobster or crab fishermen's boats as they were little bigger than rowing boats and therefore unable to range too far; the sea looked quite rough today but i can imagine, on calmer days, this myriad of little boats bobbing around in the bay.
