![]() photo: sue lindley up until as late as the early 20th century you could still buy a slave along the avenue zerktouni; apparently $75.00 being considered a suitable sum for an able bodied purchase. today, avenue zerktouni is still a vibrant bustling commercial street lined with butchers, bakers, grocers, grain and olive sellers. it is where the inhabitants of essaouira go to shop, tucked away from the main thoroughfare of tourist shops with their endless parade of carpets, lamps and slippers. | |
