berlin

berlin: possibly the largest building site in the world? decades of stagnation in the east of the city under the old communist regime is being swept away on a huge scale. utalitarian, utopian, designs from the 50's and 60's are being torn down and replaced with these gleaming glass and steel cathedrals of modern life. i've no idea what this building was but it was in a prime site on the river spree, directly over the water from the recently restored reichstag building. on a railing by the river here was a white cross, apparently a sign that someone died there in the past trying to cross from east to west berlin; seems even more of a waste ten years after the fall of the wall.
