two girls

photo: sue lindley

despite being of an age that would generally be regarded as...mature, i've never been to an exhibition of photography; perhaps somewhere deep down i've had that old prejudice inside of me that photography is not real art (i'm not stating that as my position before i start getting protesting emails - i said perhaps!!). but yesterday sue and i took some time out and visited the national theatre to see my first exhibition, only to end up seeing two!

the first was an exhibition by a photographer james sparshatt: peru - the land of the inca. very much our bag, gorgeous black and white pictures of the peoples and places in the peruvian altoplano.

whlst there though we discovered they were holding another exhibition, this time the press photographer’s year, a showcase for the best press photography of 2005: some immensely powerful (and occasionally distressing) photos here ranging from news to celebrity and sport. i'd recommend it to anyone to go and take a visit, i know i came out thanking my lucky stars for our normal life!
