 photo: david lindley the hard life of this proud little lady is pretty well evident to all who look upon her, and yet when i ask if i can take a photo she straightens her back, grows a couple of inches, and stands proudly to attention; her closed-lipped smile hiding the rubble of her teeth. i look at this image and wonder how old this lady is: 40, 50, 60? but who knows, maybe younger still? and i wonder again at what she thinks when she looks at us? i expect resentment in her eyes at our pink shiny healthiness, but all i see is a twinkle, a smile. and the meek shall inherit the earth? perhaps they already have in that little part of kerala. | |
