tea

odd that the expression is '...for all the tea in china' when in fact india is the world's largest producer of tea! indeed tea (camellia sinensis, a plant indigenous to northern india) production employs over 1 million people in india and the annual yield is approximately 1,874 million lb of the stuff.

in kerala, production is centred in a part of the western ghats known as the high ranges; 59,000 acres of land is given over to tea estates here, the vast majority belonging to tata tea - famous in the uk as the tetley tea brand.
