![]() photo: david lindley right. i'm after suggestions. i love this photo but the distraction of the dress and feet below her hands annoys me - any ideas? i've played around with cloning and saturation but can't find a satisfactory result. the old hill station of munnar is now something of a burgeoning tourist attraction; mainly for indian newlyweds who come to stay in the hills to take the cooler air and stroll the many paths available in the national parks. i came across this lady and asked if i could take a photo of her hands - what you can see here are the traditional henna tattoos used to decorate brides in the indian wedding ceremony. she told me that she was from mumbai and she'd been only married a couple of days; all the while her new husband fluttered nervously around behind her. for those of you who may not be familiar with henna; it's a natural product made from the leaves of a flowering shrub, the leaves of which are dried, ground down, formed into a mud like paste with sugar and stored in tubes or plastic cones. the tubes are then squeezed out onto the skin to form these intricate and traditional shapes. once on, the paste has to dry on for a number of hours before being washed off; the design is not permanent and at first darkens for a few days before gradually fading. white skinned westerners need to be careful though, as it can very occasionally react with fair skins and actually burn quite badly. | |
