st. teresa tea stall

last night sue and i went to kenwood on hampstead heath for an open-air classical music concert that used to be an annual staple for us until we moved into the sticks 8 years ago. it was, as always, great to take a blanket for the ground and pitch up with a pic-nic, pimms or champagne, and lay back and listen to a decent bit of classical with a finale of fantastic fireworks. last night though there were some things-that-annoyed-me:

~ russell watson. some bright spark, obviously trying to justify his wage by coming up with a way to 'improve' on something that didn't need improving, came up with the idea of getting in russell watson for a slot. now, i don't claim to know much about classical, and even less about opera, but even i know russell watson is complete pish! at the first sound of him and his opera-lite i wanted to run away screaming; fortunately though someone else, obviously with a little more sense, had decided to limit him to 4 songs!
~ the woman with the steel bangles who's every move resulted in a discordant cacophany of noise each time she moved: and she moved a lot.
~ the person who's over-ripe feet were wafting no more than a foot from my face for much of the time.
~ the person with the over-load voice telling everyone about their lamb shank in rasberry and cabernet sauce that they'd made for their pic-nic.
~ people on mobiles. why? what is it today with people? are we totally incapable of going the length of a concert without phoning someone? what can be that important?
~ russell watson. sorry, i've already been there haven't i?
