cobra

the king cobra is the worlds largest venomous snake, growing to upwards of 3m on occasions. they estimate that a single bite would be enough to kill an elephant, or up to twenty people (though i couldn't imagine too many people queuing to test out this theory)! in kerala, we went to a temple dedicated to the worship of the king cobra and it can be seen on many temple walls to this day.

luckily for any stray elephants or large groups of people, the king cobra is odd in that they feed pretty well exclusively on other snakes and small reptiles; it's preference being for the subtle delicacy that is the rat snake (though it has been known to indulge in the odd common cobra when times are hard)!
