![]() photo: david lindley the most famous sight in newcastle by far has to be the tyne bridge. as any australian will doubtless tell you, the design (by mott, hay and anderson) was lifted from the plans for the sydney harbour bridge; what they probably wont tell you though is that they in turn nicked the idea from the designers of the hell gate bridge in new york!! with work started in 1925 and completed in 1928 for the relatively cheap sum of £1.2m, the first people to cross the new structure were king george v and queen mary, aparently in an ascot landau carriage. and if you're interested, don't forget to check out our home town of chesham over at scenefrommylife, where i'm guest photographer this week. | |
