![]() photo: david lindley the hen and chickens, berwick-upon-tweed whenever there's an football game involving england on, it is the patriotic duty of each and every englishman to: ~ believe fervently (and inevitably incorrectly) that we are unbeatable; that this is our year ~ adjourn to the local hostelry to watch the match and get roaring drunk ~ stagger down the street singing loudly after the game in a state of extreme sadness or - rarely - euphoria ~ take food long after the alcohol has done it's worst, normally in the form of kebab, chips or curry ~ fight with your best friend over his/your girlfriend; whether McClaren was a mistake (short fight that one) and the relative merits of a 4-4-2 against a 3-5-2 formation. all before finally ridding your body of any offending food or alchohol that it may still harbour, often in the back of a taxi or down some alleyw | |
