![]() photo: sue lindley not simply an old american dance style, the shag, phalacrocorax aristotelis, is a goose sized bird, similar to the cormorant but smaller and generally slimmer (and, if you don't know what a cormorant is, it's like a shag but bigger!) with a characteristic steep forehead and crest during the breeding season. they nest in colonies on ledges and sea-cliffs, mainly in the north of the country - in fact, half of their uk population is found at less than ten sites, making them a breed considered at some risk. | |
