![]() photo: david lindley another day another beach. but this one is a little bit special to us: we've been here many times and is probably our favourite spot in the country for it's peacefulness and its wild beauty. in the background stands the proud ruins of dunstanburgh castle, which we always approach from embleton along a wide stretch of pristine sand, never passing more than a few people whatever the weather. from the castle we head down a more rocky coastline to the small port of craster - famous for it's traditionally smoked kippers - where we have a pint, a stotty pizza or a crab sandwich, before making the journey in reverse. despite having made the trip so many times, we never tire of that first view of the castle when we cross the dunes and come down onto the beach. it's one of those times when the world can be whirling away around you and yet you feel if you are the only ones left on the planet; it is simply one of the most peaceful places we have ever found. | |
