![]() photo: sue lindley crooked tree is a pretty laid back kind of place; sleepy is probably a slightly too speedy kind of way to describe it. up until 1984 it was an island in a large lagoon north of belize city, only reachable by boat. now there's a road (well, track really) linking it to the mainland, though when we were there it was mainly under two feet of water. people only come here for two reasons really: firstly, the 275 different species of birds to be found around the lagoon; and secondly, the cashew festival held on the first weekend in may, which features cashews (oddly enough) in the form of cake, jelly, wine, juice, parched, cracked and/or roasted! | |
