![]() photo: david lindley because of the relatively lax immigration policy in belize and their eagerness for foreign currency there has been a certain amount of what i think of as floridaisation on the spit of land called placencia. right now there is a very large parcel of land being landscaped - the mangrove swamps removed and the wildlife such as manatees and crocodiles displaced - to provide plots where huge houses for well-heeled exiles are being thrown up rapidly. fortunately the resort town of placencia is at the other end of the island and still has a relatively dusty sleepy air, a fact though that i'm certain will change as and when the road is improved. listening to: say something ~ james | |
