 photo: david lindley the best time to get to san gimignano is early in the morning before the majority of tourists are disgorged from their coaches. for a blissful period of time you get the place to yourself: the opportunity to have unimpeded vistas, to walk down narrow, peaceful, cobbled alleys that have probably not changed one jot in hundreds of years, to be able to take in the soul of the place before all of the tourist shops open to sell their tat, and of course the chance to regard the magnificent towers standing like sentinels over the town. | |
