 photo: sue lindley welwitschia: the ugliest plant in the world....official! surrounded by arid sand in the namib desert, the plant lives off the fog that rolls in off the namibian coast. it can live for 2,000 years - making it one of the most long lived organisms on earth - and is seen as many botanists almost as a living fossil. i know how it feels! personally i thought it a little undeserving of the ugly tag...i thought there was something quite endearing about the plant; probably though that's the english love for the underdog kicking in! | |
