![]() photo: sue lindley the petrified forest lies on a sandstone rise in the aba-huab valley....scattered around the area are around 50 petrified trees that are reckoned to be around 250 million years old. some of them are in remarkable condition, you can see the bark on the trunks so perfectly. it is thought that these were washed here at one time as there is an absence of branches and roots on the petrified remains. apparently they are of a type of cone bearing tree, which flourished between 200 and 300 million years ago. and as a little bonus, i note there's a little welwitschia at the bottom of this shot. | |
