turkish baths, budapest

photo: david lindley in the days of the ottoman empire, there was a law stating that any new building could not be any taller than the local governor sitting atop a horse. consequently many of the very old buildings in south east europe, once under the rule of the ottomans, are extremely low. there are still many public baths in budapest, a few mixed sex but mostly single (male) sex, this being one of the oldest in the city.
