![]() photo: david lindley at higher levels in the andes the mountainside is covered by these odd, prehistoric looking plants, called (if my feeble memory serves me right) espelletias. many are small, single level plants but as they get older they can grow upwards of 2m in height. some are reckoned to be over 350 years old. these taller examples reminded me of some 1970's monster from dr. who, but the smaller ones, carpetting the mountains, will be forever known to me as tribbles. (tribble? ask a star trek fan) | |
