children in the rain

photo: david lindley

it was raining heavily when we got to the native indian village. we'd hired a guide to take us into the jungle to show us the local flora and fauna but after ten minutes or so the paths were threatening to turn into rivers so we beat a hasty retreat to the warmth and comfort of our mini-bus.

we were sitting there wondering whether to give up and go and find a bar when the children came out of their houses to come and gawk at the gringos. heedless of the heavy rain they stood by the bus and stared and laughed at the odd looking creatures in front of them. the tables were turned; we were now the inhabitants of the world zoo, displayed for their viewing pleasure.
