![]() photo: david lindley in the late afternoon, after the siesta, the streets of trevelez started to come alive once more: the old boys came out to stand under a tree swapping yarns and doubtless trying hard to keep out of the way of their wives who bustled about preparing the evening meal. at one point a van turned up in the square with a loud-hailer blaring 'chickens, chickens, get your fresh chickens here'. the driver slid open the side door to the van to reveal rack upon rack of live, caged, chickens: they don't come fresher i suppose. in the bar a weather beaten farmer drank a quick brandy whilst intent on the mexican soap opera on the tv above the bar. two minutes later we saw him enter the house next to the bar to emerge a few seconds later with one, two, three horses in tow. has to keep them somewhere in the afternoon sun! | |
