![]() photo: sue lindley we were following an ancient roman track, climbing steeply up and down the hillsides, when we came across this farmstead. it was amazing to think that, after all the intervening years, the path was still brilliantly cobbled in places, a testament to roman engineering. probably this little cluster of houses are not that old but to me they have the aura of a bygone age, you could imagine that there have been similar structures hereabouts for thousands of years. just past them was the ruin of an arab bath house, which apparently still being used only a century ago; in effect it was an early form of a service station, a place for weary travellers to stop along the way, relax, wash the dust off and mentally prepare for the next hill. | |
