this is a milestone indeed...our 800th shot and also the last.

we'd like to thank everyone who has looked, lingered, commented and/or moved on at roadtonowhere. we've had a great time with the blog; met some nice people along the way and enjoyed sharing the sights we experienced on our travels. unfortunately though it has become ever more difficult to keep up the posting and replying of late so we decided that this milestone should also mark the demise of the site.

thanks again, take care everyone.

the night before we left etosha national park we went on a night safari, at one time stumbling across a pride of lions. our guide suggested we detoured back in the morning as these lions would, in all likeliness, still be here or hereabouts. so, as we left the park the next morning we badgered our driver into making a quick trip and were rewarded with the photos and sights we'll be posting over the next few days.

young men sent to fight in a country they never heard of, for a goal that would never benefit them; now laying forever as dust in a dusty land.

the remains of a stupid colonial war; the german troops fought long and bitter to subdue the indiginous peoples...only for, a few years later, the whole colony to be handed over to britain and its colony of south africa.

if a rhino tries to tell you that they're not bullies, don't believe them. these poor animals were just minding their own business, having a quiet drink, when up comes rhino...snorting and scuffing the ground - you know the type, always throwing his weight around - and chases them off. he wanted the waterhole to himself and wouldn't take no for an answer...he even gave us the evil eye: 'you keep away from MY pool, right?'
